When We Can Get There
We answer San Jose emergency calls across extended weekday hours and on Saturdays, with Sunday available by appointment. We are not a 24-hour operation and we do not claim to be. What we offer is a real plumber on site inside those hours, evenings and the whole of Saturday included.
When you book, tell us three things:
- Whether water is currently running
- Whether you have managed to close the house valve
- Whether sewage is involved
Those three answers decide where your call sits in the day. A job with water still running goes ahead of one that has been contained.
Pricing on an Urgent Call
- Whether the water has been stopped before we arrive
- Access to the failure, since a slab or behind a wall takes longer than an exposed pipe
- Whether the fix is a repair or a section of pipe at the end of its life
- Excavation, where the failure is in a buried service line or lateral
- Camera inspection, on a sewer call
- Time of day and day of week

Frequently Asked Questions About Emergency Plumbing in San Jose
Where is my main water shutoff in a San Jose home?
On most San Jose homes it sits on an exterior wall, inside the garage, or near the front hose bib. It turns clockwise to close. Find it now rather than during an emergency. Do not use the meter box. San Jose Water asks customers not to shut off at the meter, and damage caused there becomes yours to repair.
Can I turn the water off at the meter myself?
No. San Jose Water’s guidance asks customers not to shut off water at the meter box or tamper with the meter. Any damage you cause there is yours to pay for. The valve you are meant to use is the house valve on your own side of the coupling. CPUC Rule 16 requires you to have one and to keep it working.
Is a sewer backup an emergency?
Yes. Sewage on a floor is a contamination problem as well as a plumbing one, and it gets worse with every fixture that is used. Stop using water everywhere in the house, including upstairs. Keep people and pets away from the water until it has been cleaned properly.
Do you charge more for an urgent call?
We quote upfront before any work begins, on emergency calls as well as scheduled ones. Time of day and day of week do affect the price, and we tell you the number before we start rather than after. You will not get a bill with a figure on it you have not already agreed.
What if my shutoff valve will not close?
That is common in older South Bay homes, where a gate valve has sat open for years and seized. Do not force it, because a forced valve can snap and make the leak worse. Call us, say the valve will not close, and contain what you can with towels and buckets. Replacing a failed house valve is routine work once the emergency is contained.
